I yearn to travel the world. To fly across new landscapes and lifestyles. To immerse myself in the stories and traditions of others from foreign lands. Then to take it all back to my Brooklyn studio and spin those tales and experiences into each piece I create.
When somebody takes home one of my designs, I offer a silent 'Farewell' as that piece is now becoming part of a new journey. An adventure I may never know, but one that excites me nonetheless.
To all who buy Folkloric Jewelry, I say wear it well, and safe travels.
The collection features handmade delicate designs combining wire wrapping, hand knotting, semi-precious stones, collage, and embroidery. Folkloric's pieces are sophisticated, trendy and timeless.
Items in the collection are inspired by characters and creatures of folklore and history.
Elena's childhood was split between NYC and Rochester, NY. The child of an opera singer and a pianist (and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all musically inclined), she grew up in a home full of music. Most of her early years were spent in the pursuit of ballet, theater and music. She attributes her love of the fine details in her jewelry to the refined skills one develops when studying classical music and dance.
Elena is also passionate about stories. She is the friend who listens to the tales of your vacations and wants to see every picture. She roams the halls of great museums immersing herself in the beautiful works of the past, the symbolism, the legends. Long a lover of fairytales and folklore, Elena knows that there is magic in our world.
Elena lives and works in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, NY.
